Origin Story

Von Fey (the electronic music project of Sabrina Foldi, formerly Sabrina Dzugalo) traces her roots back to the early 90s, amid Victoria, BC's rock-dominated airwaves, where Sabrina first embraced electronic music. From a small studio in UVIC's student union building, she intrigued listeners with the eclectic sounds of Mixmaster Morris, Vangelis, and The Orb, sparking a passion for electronic music across the island. Known as the Space Monkey, her show "Wire Shock" on CFUV Radio aired long before electronic music split into its many genres.

Shortly thereafter, at the Java Coffeehouse in Victoria, she helped create "Paradigm Shift", a weekly ambient showcase. Also venturing into DJ'ing, she graced the lineups of local venues, where she spun tracks from revered labels such as Warp Records, Plus 8, Minus, Chain Reaction, and Perlon.

After studying sound engineering at Toronto's Harris Institute for the Arts, she worked in audio post for web and TV. At this time, she played at events in the Greater Toronto Area as well as internet radio programs.

Upon relocating to Vancouver, Sabrina delved into holistic medicine, profoundly influencing her music for holistic programs and yoga studios. While continuing to DJ for events in the lower mainland, she also became a regular at Victoria's Wonderment series, hosted by the Garden City Electronic Music Society.

Her return to the West Coast also sparked a surge of creative inspiration. Drawing on her piano and audio post background, she began to produce music made with samples from her foley work as well as field recordings. This launched Sabrina's EP "From the Nest", and other works, now available on Woodwork Recordings, Coldwave Records, Urban Arts Berlin, and ADSR Collective.

In subsequent years, Sabrina delved into nonlinear sound design, focusing on video game audio. She contributed as an audio artist with EA Games and provided voiceovers for indie games, showcasing her diverse skills in the gaming industry.

Now settled on Vancouver Island, she harmonizes her love for sound with nature conservation. Animal voices and human voices, guitars and synthesizers, wood cracks and bass drops, all are happy collaborators in Sabrina's musical endeavours.
